who? 

We are looking for volunteers who...

- Are interested in sports and may work in or be studying Sport & Rec

- Are interested in event management and keen to get more experienced

- Have some spare time and keen to support our event and give back to the community

- Are over 18 years or older 

(no specific experience with disability sport is required,
we'll provide a training session on this and have staff onsite to help you)

when? 

We have split the weekend up into morning and afternoon blocks or for the hard-cores,

there is a full day option.

Dates: Saturday 27th and/or Sunday 28th March:

Mornings: 9am induction, games start 10am - session ends 1pm 

Afternoons: 12.30pm induction, with handover 1pm - sessions end approx. 4pm 

Add: Pack in on Saturday from 7.30am 

Add: pack out on Sunday approx.4pm - 5.30pm 

Full Day

Volunteer Briefing: Will be held on Monday 22nd March at QEYC, Memorial Park, from 4pm-6pm.
We ask volunteers to attend so we can provide event specific training. 

where? 

The Festival is split across 3 venues.
Depending on which role you're allocated, will determine which venue you're located at: 

Trustpower Arena
Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby, Youth Fun Day,
Blind & Low Vision Sports, Boccia, Heartspace Play Zone

Tauranga Yacht Club

Sailing

Mount Club

Blind Lawn Bowls

what? 

We have a number of roles to fill over the weekend.

At time of registration, you can let us know which ones you'd prefer. 

Event Pack In  - Sat 27th - 7.30am - 9am 

Support the Festival Manager to get the event space ready. This could be anything from setting up sponsors flags, putting up signage, putting furniture in place, helping out Market Place stalls get ready.   

Meet & Greet - daily - 10am - 4pm  

Be a friendly face when people walk through the doors. Greeting them as they arrive, make sure they know where they are going, providing them with an event overview if they have come along to check out the event.

Wheelchair Rugby Support - daily - 10am - 4pm  

Support Wheelchair Rugby New Zealand with their tournament games. Working with the officials on the bench, you could be helping with scoring, time keeping or supporting the umpires.

Wheelchair Basketball Support - daily - 10am - 4pm  

Support Wheelchair Basketball New Zealand with their tournament games. Working with the officials on the bench, you could be helping with scoring, time keeping or supporting the umpires.

Heartspace Play Zone - daily - 10am - 4pm  

Support Parafed Bay of Plenty in creating a fun space where people can come along and try a variety of sports, through drills and activities set up to help them learn new skills. 
 

Youth Fun Day - Sat 27th  - 10am - 4pm  

Support Parafed Bay of Plenty with their Youth Fun Day competition. With Table tennis, badminton and sailing. 

Blind Lawn Bowls Support - Sat 27th  - 10am - 3pm  

Support Blind Sport NZ with their Blind Lawn Bowls Tournament. Taking the lead from Blind Sport NZ and supporting players and officials with anything throughout the day.  This role will be an all-rounder type of role, from sporting assistance, setting up registration, to taking photos and sharing with the Festival Manager to post on social media.

 

As this position is located offsite, we would ask that the volunteer be present and onsite for the duration of the tournament.

Sailing Support - Sat 27th  - 10am - 4pm  

Supporting Sailability Tauranga with their sailing day and Youth Regatta. Taking the lead from Sailability Tauranga with anything throughout the day.  This role will be an all-rounder type of role, from supporting Sailability Tauranga to taking photos and sharing with the Festival Manager to post on social media.

 

As this position is located offsite, we would ask that the volunteer be present and onsite for the duration of the day.  

Boccia Support - Sun 28th  - 10am - 3pm  

Support BOP Boccia Club with their tournament games. Working with the officials on the bench, you could be helping with scoring, time keeping or supporting the umpires. 

Powerchair Football Support - Sun 28th  - 10am - 3pm  

Support BOP Powerchair Football Club with their tournament games. Working with the officials on the bench, you could be helping with scoring, time keeping or supporting the umpires. 

Blind & Low Vision Sports Support - Sun 28th  - 10am - 3pm  

Support Blind Sport New Zealand with their ‘Intro to Sports’ sessions. Taking the lead from Blind Sport NZ, and supporting the different sports coaches with their game specific requirements. 

Event Pack Out - Sun 28th  - 4pm - 5.30pm (or as required)

Support the Festival Manager with packing up the event and making sure the venue is left clean and tidy.
